Fire Safety Plans That Reflect Your Building

Safety Media prepares new Fire Safety Plans and reviews and updates existing plans for buildings across Toronto, the GTA and Ontario. We document the procedures, systems and responsibilities specific to your property and support the fire department review process.

The Ontario Fire Code requires a Fire Safety Plan for many most large buildings & multi-unit residential buildings. A Fire Safety Plan helps to ensure effective maintenance of fire safety systems/equipment and procedures to prevent & protect people from fire. Safety Media Fire Safety Plans meet the requirements of the Ontario Fire Code.

Choose the service that you need:

01 / New plan

New Fire Safety Plan

For a building that needs a plan prepared from the ground up. We gather the available building information, confirm relevant site conditions, and develop building-specific emergency procedures, responsibilities and schematic documentation for review.

02 / Existing plan

Fire Safety Plan Review & Update

For an existing plan that needs its scheduled review, contains outdated information, or must reflect changes to the building, systems, people or procedures. We assess the current plan and quote the revisions needed.

A Fire Safety Plan Starts With Accurate Building Information

Under Ontario Fire Code Section 2.8, Fire Safety Plans are required for buildings and premises to which its emergency planning provisions apply. A plan must address the procedures and responsibilities that fit the actual building; requirements vary with its use and characteristics.

Our team will review the available floor plans, fire protection system information, building operations and existing documentation. We identify what needs to be confirmed on site, then prepare a plan that the building team can implement and maintain.

Already Have a Plan?

Send it with your building information. We can assess whether it needs an update and develop a scope based on the changes involved.

What Your Fire Safety Plan Will Address

The exact content and project deliverables depend on the building and the agreed scope. A plan usually addresses:

  • Building use, resources and fire protection systems
  • Emergency procedures and occupant instructions
  • Supervisory staff roles and responsibilities
  • Procedures for evacuation persons requiring assistance
  • Fire drill and staff training procedures
  • Control of fire hazards and system maintenance
  • Alternative measures during system impairments
  • Schematic drawings and supporting documentation

When you order a fire safety plan for Safety Media, you will receive a fire department approved paper copy of the plan along with PDF format electronic versions.

The quotation will identify any site visit, drawing work, submission support and deliverable formats included in your project.

Common questions

Before You Request a Quote

Do we need a new Fire Safety Plan or an update?

That depends on the quality of the existing plan and the extent of changes to the building, its systems and its procedures. Send us the current plan and describe what changed so we can assess an appropriate scope.

What information should we send?

Start with the building address, property type, reason for the request, relevant deadline, and any existing plan or floor drawings. PDF or scanned drawings can be reviewed if CAD files are unavailable.

Will you need to visit the building?

We assess the need for a site visit when quoting. It depends on the building and the accuracy and completeness of available information. The quoted scope will identify any site visit and related charge.

Who approves the Fire Safety Plan?

The local fire authority (AKA The Authority Having Jurisdiction, or AHJ) is responsible for reviewing and approving the plan. Safety Media prepares the plan and can support its review and requested revisions as described in the quotation.

How often should an existing plan be reviewed?

Under Ontario Fire Code Section 2.8, a pla(n must be reviewed as often as necessary and at least every 12 months, and revised as needed to account for changes in the building's use or other characteristics.

Can you coordinate plans for more than one property?

Yes. We can scope a portfolio together while preparing documentation that reflects the conditions and requirements of each building.
