Where are Oakville fire route signs installed? Fire route signs in Oakville must be installed as part of an approved fire route. According to the Town of Oakville’s current fire route sign requirements, authorized signs should be permanently mounted on a rigid post, pole or building, visible to approaching traffic, and installed at a 30° to 45° angle to the flow of traffic.
Signs should be placed no more than 50 metres apart along the designated fire route, with closer placement required around cul-de-sacs, curves, intersections or wherever the Fire Department determines additional identification is needed. At each limit of the fire route, two signs should be installed, one on each side of the route. Double-headed arrows indicate that the restriction applies in both directions.
The bottom of the sign should be mounted 2.2 metres above the pavement, with an allowed height range from 1.9 metres to 3 metres. Signs should be positioned no more than 30 cm back from the curb.
