Floor and hazard marking projects often involve more than choosing a colour. Safety and floor marking tapes are used to organize spaces, identify hazards and create visible boundaries in workplaces, facilities and other operational areas. The surface, pedestrian traffic, lighting conditions and how long the marking needs to remain can all affect which type of safety tape is appropriate. A warehouse aisle, stair edge, equipment area, low-light corridor and temporary maintenance zone may each require a different combination of visibility, traction and removability.
Smooth-top floor marking tape is suited to visual lines, boundaries and hazard identification, while anti-slip tape adds traction where people walk, including stairs, ramps and step edges. Reflective tape helps markings stand out in lower-light conditions, while photoluminescent tape remains visible after surrounding light is lost. For temporary hazards or restricted areas, non-adhesive Caution and Danger tapes provide a durable barrier option for indoor and outdoor use and can be removed as conditions change.
Smooth-top tape is primarily used for visual marking, such as defining aisles, pathways, equipment areas, hazard edges and other boundaries on floors or surrounding surfaces. Anti-slip tape has a textured, gritted surface that adds traction as well as visual identification, making it better suited to stairs, ramps, step edges and walking surfaces where slip resistance is important. Yellow and black striped tape is available in both smooth-top and anti-slip formats, so the right choice depends on whether the application requires marking alone or marking with added traction.
Both are non-adhesive barrier tapes used to temporarily mark hazards and restricted areas. Yellow Caution tape alerts people to a potential hazard or condition requiring additional care, while red Danger tape provides a stronger warning for higher-risk hazards or areas where access needs to be more strictly controlled. Because neither tape has an adhesive backing, they are intended to be tied, wrapped or secured around posts, barriers, equipment or access points rather than applied as floor marking tape.
